Step 3 of 5 · The Search-to-Call System
Local content, in the right order
Content that proves two things to Google: that your site knows the subject (topical relevance), and that it belongs in the towns you serve (geographic relevance). The order matters.
Why at this stage
Building town pages before your site has topical depth is the most common way to waste a month. We write supporting articles first, watch the rank map, and only add geographic content once the map says the core terms are established.
Content is step three of the plumber-only local SEO system, and it only works once the profile and the structure under it are right.
What’s included
What we actually do
Every article is edited against Google's guidance on helpful, people-first content before it publishes — if it doesn't add something a plumber would actually know, it doesn't go live.
A content plan built from the gap map and the rank map, not from a keyword tool's guess.
Supporting articles tied to your service pages — each one links up to the page it supports and gets linked back from a relevant page.
Geographic content (neighborhood and town pages) when — and only when — the map says you're ready for it.
A human edit and a real-experience pass on every article before it publishes. No walls of text.
Each new page gets its own inbound link after it's live, so Google finds and trusts it.
What it’s not
Publishing dozens of thin town pages on day one.
Copy-pasted 'People Also Ask' questions as headlines.
Content about services you don't offer.
If this is new to you
Think of it as showing your work. A site with one page per service is credible; a site that also answers the questions your customers ask — honestly, in your voice — is the one Google chooses.
Who this matters most for
Situations where step 3 does the heavy lifting
I rank near my shop, nowhere else
Proximity is doing the work. Structure and content extend your reach across the radius you drive.
I'm expanding to a new area
New shop or bigger radius? The map tells us what to build first.
I want to stop depending on ads
Ads stop the day you stop paying. A map-pack position keeps working. Both can run together.
Not sure which one you are? Check in two questions whether content is what you need next.
Here, specifically
Local content for Chicagoland plumbers
Proximity is strong in “near me” searches, and it's hard to rank in a town far from your address. So local content for a Chicagoland plumber is not a page for every suburb from Antioch to Orland Park — that's a doorway-page pattern Google has discounted for years. It's depth first, then geography inside the radius you actually drive.
Depth means supporting articles tied to your service pages: what a sewer camera inspection shows, when a water heater is worth repairing versus replacing, why a Bolingbrook basement floods after a summer storm. Those prove the site knows the trade. Once the rank map says your core terms are established, we add geographic content — neighborhoods, landmarks, the towns you serve most — because at that point it extends reach instead of diluting it.
We've watched the order matter on our own business, and plumbers get the same sequence.
Local content: questions plumbers ask
- Isn't AI content penalized?
Unedited, generic AI content performs poorly, and Google has gotten stricter about it. Our articles are drafted with AI and then edited by a person for accuracy, specifics, and your actual experience. If an article reads like every other plumber's, it doesn't publish.
- How many articles do I need?
It depends on how competitive your area is and what the rank map shows. We won't quote a number before seeing your map, because a number without a map is a guess.
- Do I have to write anything?
No, but a 10-minute call about how you actually do a job makes the content noticeably better. Owners who give us that time get pages that sound like them.
