Get Calls Flowing

Step 1 of 5 · The Search-to-Call System

Google Business Profile optimization

Your Google Business Profile is the listing that shows up in the map pack. We audit it, then fix what's holding it back — in that order.

Why at this stage

It comes first because nothing else works without it. When we ranked our own business, pages built for categories that weren't live on the profile moved zero. The same pages, for categories that were live, went from invisible to top 5. The profile is the gate.

The profile is step one of our local SEO system for Chicagoland plumbers because every later step depends on it.

What’s included

What we actually do

Everything we change follows Google's own guidelines for representing your business — the real business name, a real address or service area, a local phone number, and as few categories as honestly describe what you do.

  • A full audit before any change: primary and secondary categories, services list, descriptions, photos, attributes, hours, and how reviews are being answered.

  • A recorded walkthrough of what we found, positives first, then the opportunities — and your explicit approval on every change before it's made.

  • Category and service alignment: each real service you offer, listed under the right category, with plain-language descriptions.

  • A posting cadence set up and scheduled, a review-request link, and review responses that mention what was fixed.

  • Risk-tiered edits: anything that could trigger Google re-verification is flagged before we touch it.

What it’s not

  • Adding services you don't actually provide — we won't.

  • Fake reviews, review gating, or buying reviews.

  • Creating listings for locations that don't exist.

If this is new to you

If you've never opened your Google Business Profile dashboard, that's fine — most owners haven't. We ask for manager access (never your login) and show you everything before it changes.

Who this matters most for

Situations where step 1 does the heavy lifting

  • I'm not in the top 3

Customers search, and a competitor gets the call. Start with the profile, not the website.

  • I rank near my shop, nowhere else

Proximity is doing the work. Structure and content extend your reach across the radius you drive.

  • I've been burned by SEO before

You'll see the map before you spend a dollar, and every month after. No guarantees, no black box.

  • I'm expanding to a new area

New shop or bigger radius? The map tells us what to build first.

Not sure which one you are? Answer two questions and see whether the profile is your bottleneck.

Here, specifically

Google Business Profile optimization for Chicagoland plumbers

Chicagoland isn't one market. In some suburbs one plumber already owns the map pack across the whole area; in others the top spot is genuinely open, with nobody holding the top 3 across most of the grid. The profile is where that difference starts, and the free Scorecard shows you which situation you're in before anyone proposes work.

The pattern we see most on suburban plumber profiles: a primary category set years ago, secondary categories missing for work the company actually does — sewer, water heaters, drain cleaning — and a services list that's empty or borrowed from a competitor. Google's own guidelines say categories should describe what the business is, so we add only what you provide, then make sure each one has a page on your site to back it up.

One thing to expect: Google sometimes reverts profile edits. We watch for it after every change and re-submit until they hold, and we tell you before touching anything that could trigger re-verification.

Google Business Profile: questions plumbers ask

Will editing my profile get it suspended?

Some edits carry re-verification risk — changing the business name, address, or primary category, for example. We flag those before touching them and never make a risky change without your say-so.

Do you need my Google login?

No. You add us as a manager on the profile from your own account. You keep ownership and can remove us at any time.

How long until profile changes show on the map?

Google sometimes reverts profile changes and sometimes applies them within days. We watch for it after every change and re-submit until they hold. Ranking movement is a separate question and takes longer — see the FAQ on timelines.

Can you help if my profile isn't verified yet?

Yes. Getting a profile verified is its own process. Tell us where you're stuck on the call and we'll tell you honestly whether it's a quick fix or a longer one.
