Get Calls Flowing

Step 4 of 5 · The Search-to-Call System

Links and citations that make Google trust you

Citations are consistent listings of your business across directories. Links are references from other websites to yours. Together they tell Google — and AI search — that your business is real, local, and worth recommending.

Why at this stage

Links amplify what's already there. We place them after pages are live, never before, so we're never pointing authority at a page that doesn't exist yet.

Links are step four of a map-pack system built for plumbers — they amplify pages that already exist, which is why they come after the content.

What’s included

What we actually do

Citations mean the major directories — Yelp, Apple Maps, the Better Business Bureau, the data aggregators behind dozens more — all carrying the same name, phone, and service area.

  • Citation building across the major directories and data aggregators, with your name, phone, and service area kept identical everywhere.

  • Bing Places and other listings that AI assistants draw on when they recommend a plumber.

  • A supporting inbound link for each published page so it gets indexed and trusted.

  • Higher-authority local links — chambers of commerce, local organizations, local press — a small number per year, chosen for relevance.

  • Review diversification: guidance for earning reviews on platforms beyond Google, which matter more to AI search than most owners realize.

What it’s not

  • Buying thousands of spam links.

  • Links from sites unrelated to your trade or your area, in bulk.

  • Fake citations for addresses you don't have.

If this is new to you

If your phone number is different on Yelp, the BBB, and your own site, Google notices. Fixing that is unglamorous and it matters. Links come after.

Who this matters most for

Situations where step 4 does the heavy lifting

  • I'm not in the top 3

Customers search, and a competitor gets the call. Start with the profile, not the website.

  • I've been burned by SEO before

You'll see the map before you spend a dollar, and every month after. No guarantees, no black box.

  • I'm expanding to a new area

New shop or bigger radius? The map tells us what to build first.

Here, specifically

Links and citations for Chicagoland plumbers

Citations come first because they're cheap and they compound. Your business name, phone, and service area should read identically on Google, Apple Maps, Bing, Yelp, the BBB, and the data aggregators that feed dozens of smaller directories. One stray old phone number from a previous owner or a former office is enough to make AI assistants hesitate to recommend you, and it's an easy thing to miss on a company that's been around for decades.

Links follow the pages. Every new service page gets a supporting link after it's live, so it's found and trusted rather than sitting unindexed. A small number of higher-authority local links a year does more than a pile of generic ones — for a Chicagoland plumber that usually means a chamber of commerce listing, a local trade association, or a genuine mention in local press.

We don't bulk-buy links from sites unrelated to your trade, and we don't create citations for addresses you don't have.

Links & citations: questions plumbers ask

Are paid links safe?

Some link placements are paid and some are earned; what matters is relevance and whether the page linking to you is real. We avoid anything that looks like a link farm, and we place a small number of quality links rather than a large number of junk ones.

What's a citation, exactly?

A listing of your business name, phone, and area on a directory or data source — Yelp, Apple Maps, the BBB, industry directories, and the data companies that feed dozens of others. Consistency across all of them is what counts.
